Diego Diaz

International Trade, Market Access, Trade Remedies, Non-Tariff Barriers

 

Diego is the managing partner of Uno’s Central American unit. Diego has advised companies located or doing business in the Central American region on a variety of trade issues including trade remedies, trade policy, SPS, market access and negotiations in sectors such as glass, steel and processed food. Recently has worked training the Guatemalan private and public sector, as part of a certified project of the European Union in International Integration Law. Also, he has endeavored in attracting foreign investment to the Central American region in the sectors of mining, energy and other different commodities. Prior to joining Uno, Diego worked as an International Trade Advisor at the Guatemalan Chamber of Industry, where he was responsible for the negotiations of industrial sectors, market access and rules of origin for the Guatemalan FTAs with Colombia, Chile, CARICOM and the EU. He was also the Representative of the Guatemalan Chamber of Industry at the Guatemalan Standardization Commission (COGUANOR), as well as to the Standardization Committee at the National Science and Technology Council (CONCYT). Additionally, he assisted Central American companies in matters of market access, customs, regional regulations in SPS, Metrology and Standardization, as well as tariff classification and trade remedies matters, and collaborated as an advisor for the Central American Industrial sector in the Central American Integration Negotiations in which he assisted in developing a consensus among the participating sectors on the implementation of Central American Directives.

  • Mayor in International Relations with a minor in international trade, and a minor in international organizations. University Francisco Marroquin, Guatemala.
  • Different studies with the Advisory Centre of WTO Law with cooperation of the WTO (i.e., Introduction to WTO; SPS; Trade Remedies; Agriculture in the WTO; Dispute Settlement
